What we Believe

Theology at Logos Dei

In the church today we are many times guilty of pragmatism asking . .  . "What works?" before we ask “What is true?"  The result is doing ministry for ministry's sake as opposed to doing ministry for the glory of God.

When we start with God (our theology), we realize that the definitions of success are very different than when we started with pragmatism.

We believe the Bible to be the voices of many who have come before us, inspired by God to pass along their poems, stories, accounts, and letters of response and relationship with each other and the living God. These words have been used to help us understand God and his character, this is theology.

Theology is one of the best ways we can come to know and love God; it is also how we understand who God calls us to be and what he calls us to do.

Ministry then becomes the living and breathing expression of the theological truths that we have embraced as a community of Christ followers.

Theology of Church

In the book of Acts we see the result of Jesus' life and ministry in the actions of His followers and the new community called the church.  It is in this new community that Christ sent His Spirit to form a body that would represent His kingship and His kingdom.  It is here that we see the values that Jesus instilled in the lives of His followers come to fruition.

They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching (truth) and to the fellowship (community) to the breaking of bread and to prayer (worship).  Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.  All the believers were together and had everything in common.  Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as they had need (missional life).  Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts (community).  They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all people (worship).  And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved (missional living).    Acts 2:42-47

Though much of Acts is descriptive, telling the story of the early church, the values that the new community held are timeless.  They look different and are contextualized differently into new cultures and times through history, but they continue to define what the church is to be about and look like.  Each value that we see speaks into every culture, for in them God fulfills the deepest needs that humanity has. God meets our needs through Christ and His church.

The following four core values attempt to summarize Kingdom priorities that will always yield new life and blessing to people who purpose to live in and through them.
