Our Story

In 2004, a small group of believers including Sam Hestorff, Greg Weaver and Nancy Burke, began to recognize a disconnect between the church and culture.  It became clear that people were longing for meaning in their lives but many churches were not willing to change their current structure to answer the deep questions people were asking about life and God.  It was our desire to start a church that was willing to struggle with these tough questions and to help people see that they were part of a greater story of hope, redemption and reconciliation that God had been writing since creation.

From the beginning, we agreed that our first priority was to be faithful t0 God's Word because it was from God's word that we can find meaning and clarity for our lives.  It is from this value that the name Logos Dei emerged: Latin meaning "Word of God"

As we began to ask God what He wanted us to do, doors began to open to move Logos Dei from a dream to a reality and in October 2006 we began to meet weekly as a new community of Christ followers.

During our first year, we saw God begin to shape our community.  Some moved into leadership, others met Christ for the first time, and as a community we continued to develop a strong desire to love each other and serve Tampa and our global community.  Our focus was on building a core group of believers who would help "build a village in God's kingdom" and in June of 2007, we opened up charter membership and 53 people made a commitment to continue their spiritual journey with Logos Dei.

As we move into our second year, we continue to dream big about what God will do through us.
